JSB CATTLE COMPANY HEIFER DEVELOPMENT 

JSB’s Heifer Development program is a large part of the operation, as well as one of our favorite jobs on the ranch.  Quality is our number one priority and we strive to produce females that will benefit the beef industry regardless of operation or breeding plan.  Deriving from the genetics of our mature cowherd, we strive to produce front end replacement heifers that will grow into being front-end productive mother cows that will be fruitful for years and years.  Our goal is to produce females that will be a  great asset for other producer’s operations.  We are fortunate to sit in a region where our heifers can go any direction and perform in any environment.

We strive to produce top notch females deriving from our own cattle, raised here on the ranch, consisting of Red Angus, and F1 Akaushi heifers (spring calvers).  We will also source females from our sister operation Bridwell West Ranch (fall calvers).  In years of excess forage we set out to source females from other reputable operations across the region.  JSB will try to access front end heifers regardless of breed, that are one iron heifers with a thorough health protocol like our own.  Our operation tries to optimize our own genetics and ranch raised females first and foremost, but is happy to offer females outside of the Red Angus world that fit our strict protocols and guidelines. 

All of our replacement heifers will follow our strict herd health protocols while also being:

·       Pelvic Measured to ensure calving ease

·       Tract scored to ensure fertility

·       Age branded

·       Artificially inseminated to produce tight calving windows and access front end genetics

·       Sonogrammed and sorted into groups based on AI conception and bull bred conception. 

·       Breeding seasons are 60 days to keep calving windows tight and ensure that we are producing the front end fertile females. 

·       All females are bred to front end calving ease R.A. Brown Red Angus bulls.
